After fifty years of service to his country, Godzilla is retiring, says this link on slashdot.

Also, Mojo Nixon is retiring, saying, "I HAVE NOTHING MORE TO SAY. I AM DONE." (Is the bitterness mandatory, I wonder?)

But, a birth! Not on the same scale as either, mind you, but I might have to see "Starsky and Hutch", given this review and summation:

"Starsky & Hutch" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). It has smirky sexuality, strong language and avocado-and-tangerine-colored violence.

Dude, I've got to see Starsky & Hutch. Owen Wilson & Ben Stiller! It's bound to be a Becket movie (stinky but fun).

Unfortunately, I won't get around to it for a few weeks, since I'm busy this weekend and out of town the next...

I think you're right, it is a Beckett movie. Not surprising, given the Zoolander-ish connections it's got going.

That reminds me, I promised to tell A&J about the livejournals & blogs & things.

That's not a bad list of reasons. I like the first one best, but there's some truth to the rest. Unfortunately, I find myself reading many of his alternatives already: ars technica, Science Now, sometimes wired news (although I place Wired with slashdot, honestly), occasionally kuro5hin or plastic. He probably wouldn't like BoingBoing for some of the reasons he doesn't like slashdot, but OSNews.com should've been on his list.

(After re-reading this paragraph, I continue to agree with the first reason on his list. The web is evil, and I have too little self-restraint.)

Jen went to an anime convention where Rob/CmdrTaco gave a talk, mostly (he was willing to admit) because it meant he could go to an anime convention, and he told the story of slashdot starting under his desk as a side-project allowed by the company because he was setting up some other net service for them. After the bandwidth grew to consume one of the three T1 lines in his town, the site moved...

One of the audience members asked, "Why doesn't slashdot ever get slashdotted?" The answer is that there's a somewhat terrifying amount of bandwidth and servers behind it. I just liked the question, myself.

Well, I don't read slashdot, so his points are moot, but I just wanted to say that my immediate reaction to #8 was, "Dude, he misspelled '133T'!"

(Which on the face of it is not possible, but I've never seen "e" of "elite" included in the L33tification...)

Am I a freak or what?
