A New York Times article about how the world is just too distracting these days. The inclusion of iTunes in the following quote seems fishy to me, but maybe that's the writer's personal bugbear: But in the era of e-mail, instant messaging, Googling, e-commerce and iTunes, potential distractions while seated at a computer are not only ever-present but very enticing.

Me, I've taken to quitting my mail program for large swaths of the work day, but that doesn't keep me from poking at web browsers. Sigh. What happened to my "no web before 5 p.m." rule?

My first thought: LiveJournal isn't on the list, and is IRC really included under "instant messaging"?
My second: Hey, Usenet isn't on the list!
My third: Come to think of it, Usenet hasn't been on my list for years now. <sigh>

I keep meaning to either install strn or play with one of the myriad graphical news browsers, if only so I can skim comp.lang.lisp, but I haven't. And it doesn't really seem like I need more sources of distraction on the net. But I agree with the sigh wholeheartedly.
