I turned on C-SPAN early before the debate, to make sure I caught the beginning. The C-SPAN anchor has talked to the Fox rep in charge of the shared camera pool, talked to a couple reports covering the debate, and to various "normal folk" calling in. I thought the best thing was a meta-question asked of Mark Barabak, L.A. Times reporter: "How long into this debate do you have to stop watching it and start writing it up for the papers?"

His answer was that this time around, he's blessed with more time than usual, and will actually be able to watch the end of the debate before starting to write his summary. This is apparently unusual.

(The story of ABC's very-much-in-advance reporting is also unusual. I hope.)

Harper's did similar "way-in-advance" reporting for the GOP convention.

Of course, the story turned out to be reasonably accurate, which was really scary.
