I was worried for a while that I might pick up New York street-crossing habits. The other day I was walking behind the owner of Java Girl, and was awed by her street-crossin' prowess. I think I know the steps now:

  1. When you get to a street, walk across it. (obvious)

  2. When you're forced to stop because there's a police car inconsiderate enough to be in your way because it's driving through the intersection, wave it along with an impatient brushing motion.

  3. When the cop says, "Maybe you should wait for the light", retort, "Yeah, and maybe you should be picking up the garbage in all five boroughs!"

  4. Keep walking.

It's sort of reassuring to know that I'll never be a New Yorker.

I was impressed by her chutzpah, though, as you might've noticed. And I wondered whether she knew these guys (unlikely), or had something in particular peeving her, which seems more likely, but what do the city police have to do with garbage pickup?

Whatever. I was just impressed. =)
