I'm not an NYC pedestrian
Aug. 11th, 2004 01:23 pmI was worried for a while that I might pick up New York street-crossing habits. The other day I was walking behind the owner of Java Girl, and was awed by her street-crossin' prowess. I think I know the steps now:
It's sort of reassuring to know that I'll never be a New Yorker.
- When you get to a street, walk across it. (obvious)
- When you're forced to stop because there's a police car inconsiderate enough to be in your way because it's driving through the intersection, wave it along with an impatient brushing motion.
- When the cop says, "Maybe you should wait for the light", retort, "Yeah, and maybe you should be picking up the garbage in all five boroughs!"
- Keep walking.
It's sort of reassuring to know that I'll never be a New Yorker.
