I'm going to break from my pretense that this is a big cork board, not a journal, in order to say just one thing: packing sucks.

At the end of it, in just a few days, I'll be in New York, and oh, am I looking forward to it! But the process of packing up dishes, selling furniture, worrying about breakage, wondering what to toss and what to cram into a studio? I could skip that part.

I know, I'm paying movers, so I'm already skipping a big part of moving; no actual schlepping of stuff about for me. But it's still a royal pain. I have to pack up the harp so it's safe for transit, finish doing laundry so I can pack up my clothes (keeping a week's worth out to take with me on the plane), finish packing up the kitchen stuff nice and secure, and move a few more things about. Which, honestly, means I'm almost done for tonight.

As soon as I finish griping about how I'm not finished yet. =)

Update:The movers came and left in a jiffy, and now I feel like I should take pictures of the remains, because I have no stuff! The only things left are things I'm trying to sell; that, or they belong to [livejournal.com profile] m00nglum. ;-) And now it's time for bed.

I feel your pain, dude! I'm going to have to do it all in a few months, myself.

Good luck with it all. Hopefully I'll get to see you in New York after I move. (Although that'll be right before the wedding, so I might see you in Iowa first!)

That's entirely likely! I look forward to you being on the East Coast, though -- we need critical mass for Morimoto!

Most of the pain is over with now (after an all-nighter). Just need to sell/donate a few more things. Oh, and successfully move in and/or put stuff in storage on the other side. Maybe I shouldn't count my pain before it's hatched, as it were...

Moving does suck. So when you get to NYC. Take Jen and yourself down to Nio at 271 Bleaker for the Veal Osso Bucca as a treat. You won't regret it in the least....

Mmm, thanks for the recommendation! I think simply relaxing is the very first step. And the third step, as always, is profit. Step two might be dinner, we'll see.

You're moving into a studio? Ow, I definitely feel your pain.

We actually did an experiment last fall where I telecommuted from NYC for two weeks. Being stuck in the studio together was actually quite pleasant, really. =) Admittedly, I didn't have any of my stuff there. Most of my belongings are going into storage, though, because there's simply no room for 15 boxes of books.

And I didn't say this earlier, but we're on the wait-list for a two bedroom place in university post-doc housing. That'll make things quite a bit nicer.

Yeah, I think I'm more worried about him than he is...

Of course, I've been in the studio for 3 years already. But I go stir crazy just going home to it at night.

He's going to be living _and_ working there. Stuck in one tiny little room (well, ok, decent-sized room, but still) all day without anyone except me around to distract him.

I'm really hoping the waiting list starts moving quickly, before he loses what remains of his sanity after all that packing...

Don't worry, I think any sanity loss will be temporary. Just as with cramming for a test, I'm willing to bet anything revelations I had in the wee and desperate hours of the night will be quickly forgotten. =)

So, I am curious, what is the fate of the fish end-table?

*grin* Oh, that goes, of course! Unfortunately, it goes into storage first, but I detached the fish and saved them away so they don't get dingy. I actually really like the little round end-table with the bars; I think it's pretty cute. I have it on good authority, though, that there's just no room for it in the studio. (Poor fishes!)

Nope, definitely no room. *happy wave* Yes, I'm still up (somehow we got sucked into reading LJ on the argument that it's good to time-shift back to normal here time, so I may not be too coherent).

A total yay for you guys, though!
