vampire evolution, for fun and profit
Aug. 26th, 2005 10:40 pmThis from
rt_hon_rackman: a 30-min talk (in Flash) about how vampires both evolved and then became extinct. The part that got me was they described how they were able to get funding and "volunteer" access from Texas, and how the Texan correctional system wound up being an excellent source of both sociopathic (vampire-throwback) and completely non-sociopathic control subjects not guilty of any actual crimes... Later on, after describing vampire's extreme pattern matching skills (and an unfortunate neurological short-circuit, the "Crucifix Glitch"), he goes on to say that it's already been observed that highly effective business executives often have sociopathic tendencies, and so wouldn't it be wonderful to bring back vampires to improve the world?
It's by Peter Watts, and is pretty damned funny.
