From the usual sort of Business Week blather about Apple:
Yes, Apple's user base continues to widen. And Macheads tend to keep their machines longer than their Wintel counterparts. But the Windows PC lifecycle is stretching out well beyond two years now.

The Windows PC cycle is stretching to two years? I've had my Mac laptop for four, and for everything except for playing certain games, it works wonderfully.

As part of the moving process, I just pulled my 7200 out of a closet and turned it on to see if it's worth giving away, and apart from a dead CMOS battery(*), it seems to be working just fine. And that computer is at least 9 years old! Okay, so I'm not going to install the latest operating system on it, but it still runs Word 5.1 beautifully, and we all know what that means.

So yes, of course I want one of Apple's shiny new 1.5GHz powerbooks. But I don't need one. And I blame Apple for that.

(*) Which means you have to reset the clock when it starts up, which software can do automatically if the computer is networked.
