"New privacy policy consolidates all your activity data at google.com unless you erase it first"

I'm not going to bother. Edit: I am going to bother, because I don't think I gain anything by Google having this.

If you're so inclined, that's the story, and here are more instructions ( https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/02/how-remove-your-google-search-history-googles-new-privacy-policy-takes-effect ), and here's how to save your web history first if you feel like it ( http://xach.livejournal.com/301555.html ).

Apparently I have no web history, in either of my google accounts? One of the accounts redirects https://google.com/history to the main page, and the other goes to a page that says "turn web history on."

I guess that means I am pre-erased?

Oh noooo, you never existed!

I occasionally found the "you last visited this page on ..." info interesting, but it was almost never actionable -- I think I hardly ever changed my behavior, or chose one link vs. another because of it. And I already have Pinboard (not same as Pinterest) for saving bookmarks for things I find useful.

I had the same result.

I went and zapped things all the same, although doing so appears to turn your web history on..although you can "pause" it, whatever that means.

Pause means disable. And if I had to guess, you probably looked at this, back in 2007 or so, and said, "whoa, privacy!". (That's the sort of thing you'd say.)

That was probably what I did.

I'm guessing this means that you don't log in to google very often? Which, why would you-- you probably don't use gmail on a regular basis (I'm guessing), and probably use G+ only sparingly at best.

I use gmail constantly! It is where all my email goes, has been for years, way, way back before google went full-on evil. It's probably like what khedron said to vizsludraugas--I looked at it and thought, "Uh, no," turned it off, and never thought of it again.

Oh, I thought your other account was the preferred one-- that was the basis for my guess.

Can't speak for D., but gmail backs my pobox account -- pobox just means that I can switch providers without having to tell everyone my new email address. That's been very nice over the past 11 or so years.
